What a ride it has been for Nick Foles. From being deemed no longer good with his times with the Rams and Jeff Fisher, to becoming a backup QB and coming in to save the city of Philadelphia’s hope to win a championship. The farewell tour has seemed to come for Nick Foles.
Nick Foles recently just bought out of his contract which allows him to become a free agent. This means Eagles can franchise tag Foles, which would allow the Eagles to control where he lands. Instead of letting him walk and sign with a divisional foe like the Washington Redskins for example. The Eagles can send him to a place where they would not have to play against him twice. I have interviewed a student who goes to Bucks County Community College and asked his opinion about how he feels about Nick Foles buying out his final year of his contract. The student stated “He made a terrible decision but, he has to do what is right for him.” After that question I asked if he thinks Eagles should trade him or keep for final season. He said “ No he should stay for his final season.”
The Eagles also have another option of just keeping him for another season. But with doing that would not be an ideal situation. Nick has 20 million left on his contract which would be an awful lot of money for just a backup QB. Carson Wentz is rumored to be back by training camp so he will have enough time to heal his injuries in which last season felt to be rushed. Carson Wentz last season did not go through training camp. Carson instead was rehabbing his ACL and MCL injury which caused him to miss almost a year of without playing football.
Last season Nick Foles came in to the season week 14 to cover in for Carson Wentz injury against the Rams. Nick came in the 4th quarter ready to take action, Nick kept focused at what was ahead of him and never lost steamed. This of course allowed him to steam roll through the postseason. Nick overcame the obstacles of the firepower offense of the Atlanta Falcons, bulldozed through the Minnesota Vikings, and just completely dominated the New England Patriots. Everybody counted the Eagles out once Carson Wentz went down. That predicament forced us into the underdog role and then so came the dog masks. I continued to ask questions to students. I asked another male student how much does Foles mean to him. He went on to say “On a scale from one to ten it is at a ten.”
The dog mask let everyone know that we were listening to what they were saying but we are willing to take on that challenge and make the people who doubted us eat their words. Things like the dog mask and the Jason Kelce rant at the Eagles super bowl parade are reasons why that super bowl team will forever be immortalized by the people of Philadelphia and the incredible run that the team had in the postseason will go down in football history.
